tasmanians pay the lowest tax
Annual data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that Tasmanians pay the lowest level of state and local taxes in the nation.
The ABS figures show that in the last financial year the per capita state and local tax payment of $1,860 was the lowest in Australia – well below the average of $2,594 and more than $1,000 below WA’s top payment of $3,015.

Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show that the total value of construction work done in Tasmania during the year to March 2007 was $1.80 billion, an increase of 4.6% over the previous year. The value of engineering construction work, covering telecommunications, electricity and water storage and supply, was up by 19.1% during the period.
In the twelve months to May 2007 the number of residential building approvals in Tasmania increased by 13.9%, compared with only 0.3% growth Australia-wide.

Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows that Tasmanian companies exported merchandise worth $3.71 billion in the year to May 2007 – an increase of 31.5% over the previous twelve months and a record high. Growth in exports from Tasmania was more than double the Australian national rate of 13% for the same period.
