The Hobart luxury apartment market
Three penthouses in Hobart have sold for more than three million dollars.
At the Silos apartments on Castray Esplanade there have been sales at $3.8 million and $3.5 million. The high-rise apartment block faces north across the Hobart docks and waterfront.
A regular apartment at the Silos, which was bought off the developer’s plan for $300,000 in 2000, was sold recently for $900,000.
In April 2007 a two-level 420-square-metre penthouse at One Collins Street was sold for $3 million. The apartment, which has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and four parking spaces, was bought off the plan in 2003 and remained empty for four years until its resale to a local company.
At nearby Zero Davey an apartment which sold off the plan for $650,000 in 2003, was resold recently for $1.1 million.
Salamanca Mews is a low-rise apartment complex in Gladstone Street, adjacent to St Davids Park and half a block from the Salamanca shopping and restaurant strip. Club Salamanca, an up-market fitness centre with sauna and indoor swimming pool, is within the precinct. A two-bedroom apartment in Salamanca Mews sold for $788,000 in 2006.

Silo apartments face on to the Hobart docks but do not have absolute water-frontage.
