T-change is an independent guide for people thinking about moving to Tasmania. We publish plain-language guides in three areas: regions, covering Hobart and the south, Launceston and the north, the north-west and West Coast, and the east coast and Midlands; living, covering climate, housing, schools, healthcare and work; and moving, covering the Bass Strait crossing, biosecurity, and licence and vehicle registration. Our free move planner turns your arrival date into a dated checklist.
Why we exist
This web address was once home to a site about making a sea change to Tasmania, and later lapsed. Moving across Bass Strait raises lots of practical questions, and the answers are spread across many agencies. We want to bring the essentials together in one place, grounded in official sources, so you can plan with confidence.
How we work
We write every guide in our own words. For rules and deadlines, we rely on official sources such as Service Tasmania, Transport Services Tasmania, Biosecurity Tasmania, Consumer, Building and Occupational Services, the Department for Education, Children and Young People, the Bureau of Meteorology, Healthdirect and Services Australia, and we list our sources on each page. We never invent statistics, prices, quotes or testimonials, and we don't rank suburbs or recommend businesses.
Independence
T-change (tchange.com.au) is an independent information site. We are not a government agency, tourism body, real estate agent, removalist, ferry operator or migration adviser, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any business, agency or organisation named on this site, any previous operator of this domain, or any business with a similar name.
General information only
Our guides are general information and don't take your circumstances into account. Check current requirements with the relevant agency, and get professional advice for legal, financial or property decisions.
